Grænalón Glacier Lagoon - Highlands of Iceland - Iceland Travel Guide

What’s one of the greatest wonders of nature that can be seen in Iceland? Well, it’s undoubtedly the Glacier Lagoons of Iceland. The first glacier lagoon was formed 10, 000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. The country consists of a few glacier lagoons as a result of the warming climate. Grænalón Glacier Lagoon is, however, known for its uniqueness. As it is shrinking rather than expanding despite originating from Vatnjökull. Grænalón can be loosely translated as “Green-lagoon”. It is one of the glacial lakes of the Icelandic glacier Vatnjökull.
